Animated Delete Button Microinteraction
A polished animated delete button built with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, featuring a letter-eating trash animation, sound effects, success state, keyboard support, and a smooth reset interaction.
Use the same code shown in the video.
Animated Delete Button Microinteraction is a polished frontend interaction built with pure HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
Instead of using a standard delete button with a simple fade or confirmation effect, this component turns the delete action into a complete visual experience. When the button is pressed, the trash bin opens and each letter of the word “Delete” is pulled toward the bin one by one, creating a playful suction and eating animation.
As each letter reaches the trash bin, the icon reacts with small chewing, squash, lid, and pulse animations. Once the full sequence is complete, the trash lid closes, the button smoothly collapses from a pill-shaped control into a circular success button, and an animated green checkmark appears.
The interaction also includes lightweight sound feedback created directly in JavaScript with the Web Audio API. No external audio files are required. Different synthesized sounds are used for the initial click, trash lid movement, letter consumption, completion, and reset state.
Clicking the completed success button resets the component back to its original delete state. The text returns with a staggered animation, the trash icon is restored, and the button expands back into its initial form.
The visual design uses a modern dark interface with neumorphic-inspired depth, soft shadows, red danger accents, ambient background glow, smooth transitions, and green confirmation feedback.
The component is completely standalone and does not depend on Bootstrap, Tailwind CSS, jQuery, animation libraries, icon packages, or external JavaScript frameworks.

How the Interaction Works
The component uses a small state-management system with four states: idle, animating, completed, and resetting.
When the button is in its idle state, clicking it starts the delete animation. The trash lid opens first, then JavaScript calculates the position of the trash opening and the position of each individual letter.
Each letter is animated toward the trash icon using the Web Animations API. The movement includes translation, scaling, rotation, opacity changes, and blur to create the appearance of the text being pulled into the bin.
Small trash-bin reactions are triggered as the letters reach the opening. These include body squash, lid movement, a suction pulse ring, and subtle button movement.
After the final letter disappears, the lid closes and the button transitions into its completion state.
The original trash icon fades away, the button contracts into a circular control, the surrounding red glow changes to green, and the success checkmark animates into view.
Clicking the completed button runs the reset sequence and returns the component to its original state.
Audio Feedback
The component creates its interface sounds directly in the browser with the Web Audio API.
Different oscillator frequencies and timing patterns are used to create short interaction sounds for:
Initial button click
Trash lid opening
Each consumed letter
Trash lid closing
Success confirmation
Reset interaction
Because the sounds are generated programmatically, there are no MP3, WAV, or other external audio assets required.
Accessibility
The delete control uses a real HTML button element and includes an ARIA label.
Both Enter and Space keyboard actions trigger the interaction, allowing the component to work without relying exclusively on pointer input.
The ARIA label also changes during different stages of the interaction, including the deleting and completed states.
Customization
The component can be customized directly through its CSS variables and styles.
You can change the danger accent color, success color, glow strength, button size, background, animation timing, shadows, icon appearance, and success styling.
The inline SVG trash icon and success checkmark can also be replaced or modified without adding an external icon library.
Developers can connect the visual sequence to their own application logic by triggering an API call, form action, item removal, or confirmation workflow at the appropriate stage of the animation.

Important Note
This resource demonstrates the user interface and animation for a delete action. It does not delete data from a database or call an external API by itself.
For a production application, connect the interaction to your own delete endpoint, application state, confirmation logic, or backend service before treating the operation as a completed deletion.
